The latest Internet Ramblings on Memphis

Check out these Valentines Day events going on all over the city.

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, an apparent indication that weve got six more weeks of winter. The irony is, it feels like spring already! And according to another weather resource, we may not get much winter at all.

I checked the Old Farmers Almanac today to see what it had to say about the rest of our winter. According to its long range forecast, we can expect warmer-than-normal temperatures for the duration of the winter and little precipitation.

While in years past, March has brought some of the biggest snowfalls in Memphis history, its not looking likely for this year.

Only time will tell whether Punxsutawney Phil or the Old Farmers Almanac proves to be the more reliable resource.

Whether you have the blues or just love blues music, this is a great week to be in Memphis. Today kicks off the 2012 International Blues Challenge. Presented by The Blues Foundation, the International Blues Challenge is the worlds largest gathering of blues bands. The event began in 1984 and strives to advance the careers of up and coming blues artists by showcasing their talents and bestowing upon them awards that are recognized industry-wide. This year, nearly 200 blues acts from around the world are expected to compete for cash and prizes. The event runs from January 31-February 4, 2012.

As a product of the Memphis City Schools, I have some fond and some not-so-fond memories of school lunches.
